May 20, 2021 - Final Presentation:

Dear Corona Virus - is an experimental & excerpted performance piece from my developing immersive production 'PXSO - PhoeniX rising in ScorpiO.'  This excerpt uses Max MSP technology to make the images dynamic and surreal.  Max MSP also allowed me to play with projection mapping on an 8-story building across from my apartment window.  And finally, the sound also incorporated Max MSP and the use of a midi controller with touch pads to trigger sampled sound effects.  Original illustrations of the great Phoenix by Andrea Sabariego.

Introducing my response to the March 4th, 2021 Max audio assignment entitled, "Dear Corona Virus..."  I was drawn to the Constant Power Volume Panning lesson in my attempt to create an ambisonic environment.  Additionally, I had fun creating loops using the Soundfont Umenu and recording some cool samples on the boomerang loop recorder.  I then went on a sound journey asking family and friends from around the world to record a short audio phrase in their own language, "You will not stop me from being a human being!"  I added the reverb sound effect on all these sound clips to help clean up the background noise.  The languages I was blessed to present are: Hindi, Tagalog, Jamaican Patois, Dutch, Bengali, Japanese and Catalan.  Finally, I recorded an open letter to the corona virus at the start of the New York City wide quarantine in March of 2020 which was used as the center piece of this assignment.  All vocals were assigned a pad on my newly invested Akai LPD8 midi controller & the hip hop theatre artist in me had to spit a classic Wu-Tang verse.

I would like to continue working on this piece and learning more about the audio effects in Max, specifically creating more ambisonic environments as well as the millions of sound effects to filter an audio track.  Thanks Ryan & Briggan for your support & feedback!  May PIMA Max 2021 rock rock on!
